I have just added 'Evanova', a new Android application for Eve Online on the Market. You can grab it here ->
Evanova Market Link
It runs on Android phones and tablets (tested on the Motorola Xoom and Asus EEE Transformer only though).
Feedback, comments and suggestions by in-game mail or on Evanova's Blog would be greatly appreciated. Please be kind, all the time I spent writing it, I didn't roam null sec and bubble you!

Thanks to all for that initial feedback. I'll try to answer some questions and observations. I have myself found a few bugs here and there, that I am fixing at the moment. Noticeably, the Market Orders screen on the tablets version doesn't change from buy to sell orders when you select the action bar buttons and some performance fix on some screens.
Quote:
However, I am wondering about assets? My character shows no assets. Is that a cache thing or API thing??
Yes, your assets should be there, displayed as a grouped list (they are a little small as Baleful Scarr pointed out). Try reloading your Pilot or close the program and re-open it and let me know if that solves.it. What device are you using it on?
Quote:
alas, I have already found a minor graphical bug. On the help screen when the tablet is rotated from portrait to landscape the buttons in the left fragment bounce around (API keys help, About Evanova, blog link).
Thanks. I will look into it.
Quote:
Edit: One other minor thing, the skill groups still appear, even if you have no skills on that toon. It was a bit confusing at first :)
I didn't get around that one yet, I hate that bug ;-)
Unfortunately, I didn't go as far as having a skill planner or a fitting tool. I reckon they would be awesome, but some features would be hard to make pleasant on a small screen. However, I do have wild dreams about a touch interface for fitting my ships!
Regarding the in-game mail feature, this is on my list of "TODO soon" as I would myself have a use for it. I knew there was already an application on the Market so I didn't want to rush it, but I admit I've never tried it. I am looking for suggestions on how to fit it, mostly on small devices.
Thanks again for the feedback. I am working on an update that should be there soon.

If you're on a small device, hit the settings button from the Pilots List or the Pilot View screen. There is an option for deleting pilots you don't want to see. Note that they will come back on the next Account reload. For tablets, select a character, then use the Stop sign on the action bar.
Originally by: coolzero
is it possible to add more accounts? i have 2 so it would be nice to see the other account as well.
Each account you add to the API keys file will show up. The list of pilots has a header you can click which will show your pilots grouped by account rather than a long list of pilots. You can also delete whole accounts from there.

I know my tablet is capable of running it. Has the same android version as my phone but for some reason i can't get it installed on my tablet.
I'd rather not publish the APK outside the market at the moment, for security and confidentiality reasons. I need to investigate the implications of doing so beforehand.
What tablet do you have, and what is the Android version that is running on? Do you have any report on why it won't install?

Hello all.
I have just pushed an update on the Android Market, with bug fixes from what you all wonderful pilots reported, and made it more obvious if you are using a limited or full API key.
I also added some documentation about not being able to import keys: most of the time, it boils down to unmounting your SD card before going back to Evanova.
In all cases, please report any detail you may have about unsuccesfull attempts on the Evanova release page.
Thank you all for your great feedback, suggestions and donations. This made me update Evanova before I get into Incarna! Inconceivable!*

Yes, it's a glitch in the small devices version. A Pilot reload or leaving/re-opening Evanova should show everyone. You can also select that pilot and reload it from the pilot view screen. That should fix it. This bug is my first priority today.
Originally by: Paukinra
2) All of my characters (from both APIs) are displayed as having no known skills (except the one currently in training) and 0 SP.
Gasp! Really? It maybe related to the same aforementioned bug. I will look into this.
Originally by: Paukinra
3) I there a wat of filtering known skills/avaible skills/all skills I havnt seen?
Yes, click the Character Skill screen title (where the little book icon is displayed. It should switch known/available/all skills, and the icon should change accordingly.
Originally by: Paukinra
4) Seeing Certificates would be nice
*writes one more entry to the TODO list
Originally by: Paukinra
5) IS there a way of seeing how long it will be on the prequiqusites for a skills, not just the skills needed.
Not yet. I plan to extends that view to the full requisites tree but still need to think of a nice way to display them.
Originally by: Paukinra
6) Do you plan on moving skills like 'DED connections' to the 'Fake Skills' bit of the libary.
In theory, all skills marked as 'not published' from the API shouldn't show. If those skills are still marked as 'published', it'll have to be a manual job rather than an update through the API. The 'Fake Skills' group still shows empty. It is a minor bug I'll fix.
Originally by: Paukinra
Hm... That was longer than I thought.
Real nice app though, I saw somewhere you said about a widget Id love that also. Once this gets a skill planner and the bug i said about our gone I see no need for aura to be honest..
Much appreciated. Thanks for taking time to write this. I definitely would love a widget. It's probably going to be higher priority than a Skill Planner as it's a new area of Android I want to explore.

There is! It is just under the Character Info part, and that is probably why you don't see it :( Do the menu buttons show on your device? (Assets, Orders, etc.).
Originally by: coolzero
and another think that would be nice is a notification when a account is about to expire(evemon reports it so im sure its in the API.)
Good idea. That should easy to add if the API has this field. I'll write that down on my TODO list.

Edited by: Evanova Android on 28/06/2011 22:01:30 A little compilation of F.A.Q from discussion with fellow pilots who installed Evanova in their cockpit.
- Character stats are empty (0 ISK, etc.) but my API keys are fine.
- If the "Reload pilots" menu button on the pilot list screen doesn't seem to do anything (you have to wait a little, and this can take a while on 3G), try re-installing the app from the market to make sure you have the latest version and data.
- Viewing pilot attributes (small devices):
- When on the main pilot view (the one with the menu buttons), click/press the panel on top of the one showing your current training. It should open a new screen with your attributes and implants.
- Many other panels are clickable - keep on clickin'!
- For example, the corporation icon on the main pilot view leads you to the corporation screen right away.
- With notifications what is the difference between one for pilot and one for all. Also what does it notify me about?
- Notifications pop up when a training queue is about to complete(less than 24h). - "One for all" will produce one notification regardless of how many queues are expiring. - "One per pilot" will produce a notification for each expiring queue.
Note that the notification system doesn't work as I would like and is getting a major overhaul in the next version.
Thanks for all the support and help from everyone. Make sure to keep up with the latest news from Evanova on the Evanova blog. Latest info can usually be found there.

Is it the Android market that tells you the app is not compatible? There is no such limitation in the code (on purpose).

Originally by: Smuggling Jester The application is incompartible to my tablet. android 2.1 not listed on market and market.android gives me incompartability response.
There are definitely troubles with Evanova and 2.1. Some people reported no skills shown, or troubles with the market. After some investigations, I have found a few things:
* There is definitely a bug with Android 2.1 and the components used on the Skill screen. I am trying to fix this with a workaround that I have yet to check on other versions.
* The APK is "protected" on the market. This means people with rooted devices, devices that normally don't have access to the Android Market and such cannot see the application. I would suspect something similar is the cause for those who have a half application downloaded. I intend to "unprotected" the APK, so it can be distributed more widely, but this will have to be with the next version after I work out all the details.

Thanks for the feedback.

1) On screens with icons at the bottom, like gallery or corporation, the icons at the bottom overlap.
Yes, portraits do overlap, and I am not sure if this component ("Gallery") can behave differently. I never considered it annoying, but it's now on my list.
Originally by: skyk
2) When you remove characters, their corp icons are still listed in the "Corporations" screen.
I have mixed feelings about this. Multiple pilots can be in the same Corp, so you would need to delete all those pilots. But then, on the other hand, you may want to keep the Corp, or show a Corp none of your pilots are in (with limited info). I am not sure what to do with this and inputs would be greatly appreciated.
Originally by: skyk
3) No screen rotation, vertical only (by design?)
It is half by design, and half by necessity. On small devices, a landscape view doesn't really provide a better view on most screens (that's the design part). Now, coding for both takes a lot of time. So I decided to disable the whole thing on small devices until I have more time to make something that I consider good enough for consumption.
Originally by: skyk
4) Character potraits in the pilots list screen could be higher res. Same for all images really on my (pretty large screen) phone.
That is another "Man, I so don't have time to look at those things!". Currently the background is the 512x512 version of pictures, while the rest is 64x64.
Originally by: skyk
5) Phone "Settings" button does not work in the currently training skill page . Doesnt really matter but not sure if it should or not.

Why did you do this? Yes, of course my tablet is rooted.
I hope that will be fixed soon >.<
The reason is: I didn't had time to work out the details of obsfuscating the code to avoid easy reverse engineering of parts I don't want people to get at. This app is a LOT of work (most evenings for roughly half a year) and your API keys are stored in there. I don't want a rogue app written that *could* steal any of the data, and I don't want people cloning my application easily without my approval. Until I know exactly how to block things for certain, less information is better.
Now the good news is: I've worked out those details, and the next release will NOT be protected on the market (yet obfuscated) and the APK should be available for downloads.
Talking about the "next update", I might update the application before enabling the in-game mail feature as it has lots of bug fixes but the mail is not in the shape I want it to be. Lack of time will tell.

Originally by: Market Research Evanova, awesome app I love the look and feel of it more than Aura.
So far my only complaint is it forces server status updates and char sheet updates on disconnection and reconnection to the mobile network I.E. spotty network connection in the woods. I monitor my data usage more than what is healthy and so far it seems the app is a hog. Maybe you can tune down the force update on reconnect maybe time stamp updates instead? Like once an hour or on next connect after said hour? Maybe a setting to let me the user decide.
Love to see where your app goes, looking forward to updates and additions!
I was actually thinking just that yesterday. I will probably limit the server status updates to when the application starts and also limit requests with an arbitrary cache time. However I am surprised that the app uses the network too much. Server status updates are basically the only automatic updates so far, unless you have an invalid API key lying around (status updates are also very small in size).
I was going to implement an automatic pilot update, but in light of your feedback, I am not sure it is the best route to go. At the moment, pilot updates need a manual trigger but that seemed to cause some confusion to some users. I could also have a settings option for that, but I don't want an asplosion of options. What do you think?

Not sure if you can do it but sell orders would be nice, and a delete corperation option, as I have 9 characters on 3 accounts but only care to see corps for 3 of them.
The next version should be a little less hungry network-wise and besides automatic key imports, nothing will be downloaded automatically. I may add those timed option later.
I will add a "Delete corporation" button. Actually, it's already there but hidden ;-) an "Add" button is also planned for later.
As for Market Orders, you can switch from buy to sell by hitting the Market Orders screen title (next to the icon) on small devices or use the action bar button on tablets.

Yes, there should be a "sort by" option. Will definitely think about it.

I am not sure what you mean by "fast scroll". A scrollbar on the side? Definitely!

Indeed, that would be awesome. But fittings and a fitting tool are a long term plan and this probably won't appear very soon... :(

5. Give the facility to swap between pilots from within applications, rather than go back to the pilot screen
Hum...Yes, but screen size is limited. Adding a drop-down on the pilot-related screens would eat up more of that already filled up space. I'll think about that.

6. Sometimes the assets disappear and I need to reload the pilot to get them back. Can the asset list be cached on the phone or preferably the SD card to prevent this, and use a forced manual update ?
Yes, I noticed this issue while working on that screen. The assets disappear with the cache. This should be fixed in the next version.

7. Some asset locations are just a number, not the name of the station
Yes, that and many names. I am currently working on a solution.

8. Give an out of date clone notification
I will think about a notification but the clone info could indeed use some coloring to emphasize that.

9. Provide an inventory list of items and ships
Many people have asked for an item database. So, this will be in the works.

Apologies for all of this stuff, but you did say you wanted feedback
LOL, yes I did :). And thanks for all the suggestions. I cannot promise to implement everything that everyone suggests but I am combing through and try to work on what people seem to want the most.

FYI: Using a HUAWEI Ascend phone
Thanks! I hope the next version will be more spectacular - shopping is really boring unless you can do it with a smartphone :P
While I am it bumping this thread, here's a heads-up on what's coming (hopefully during mid september).
- Support for the new API keys system coming this week
- Better mail - including access to notification messages.
- Wallet transactions and Wallet journal for pilots. I hope to squeeze in the feature for corporations too.
- By popular request: in-app item database!
